Electric cars in Milton Keynes
  • The government are giving Milton Keynes £9m to promote electric vehicles.
  • Electric car drivers in Milton Keynes will be allowed to travel in bus lanes in an attempt to boost low-emission vehicles.
  • A £40m fund will be shared out to four towns and cities to encourage more people to buy hybrid and plug-in cars.

Your drive to our iCentre, Bletchley Business Campus or Denbigh Business Park could be much quicker, easier, and eco-friendly as the government encourages the use of electric cars.

ITV News Anglia report that Milton Keynes Council's winning bid for the money included plans for an advice centre that people can come to if they are thinking of buying an electric car. Owners could also be allowed to use the town's 20,000 parking bays for free. The Government has pledged to make all new vehicles electric by 2040.

The £9m which MK are set to receive will be used to open a city centre Electric Vehicle Experience Centre, a 'one stop shop' providing consumer advice and short-term vehicle loans.

Transport secretary Patrick McLaughlin said: "The UK is a world leader in the uptake of low emission vehicles and our long-term economic plan is investing £600 million by 2020 to improve air quality, create jobs and achieve our goal of every new car and van in the UK being ultra-low emission by 2040."

Increasing prosperity is becoming the norm in MK; at the start of the month, The Telegraph reported that Milton Keynes will expand at a faster rate than London.

As MK continues to grow even more, we hope to see more businesses expand or even relocate here and take advantage of the continued growth. Milton Keynes: expanding at a faster rate than London and in an eco-friendly manner!
