Driverless Cars Publicly Trialled in Milton Keynes

Driverless cars are being trialled in Milton Keynes today in what could be a monumental day in the automotive industry.

The driverless cars can be spotted around Central Milton Keynes today as they are trialled on the pavements of the UK for the first time. These tests are the culmination of an 18-month research project which involved mapping the town and updating regulations for driverless cars. 

The US have already trialed driverless cars on public roads, but the cars on show in CMK have been developed by Oxford based company, 'Oxbotica'.

Business and Energy Secretary Greg Clark told Sky News: "Today's first public trials of driverless vehicles in our towns is a ground-breaking moment and further evidence that Britain is at the forefront of innovation.

"The global market for autonomous vehicles presents huge opportunities for our automotive and technology firms." Clark continued: "And the research that underpins the technology and software will have applications way beyond autonomous vehicles."

There is no confirmation as of yet whether these cars can hit the public roads of our beloved MK any time soon, but it is possible that your car could be taking you to one of our business centres in MK soon.
