What is a sensory room and how can Bucks Biz customers benefit?

We're featuring Cheryl Kennedy, owner of AIW Consultancy - a service to support autistic and anxious children who are currently in mainstrem education. She runs her services from a specially adapted sensory room, which helps to calm and soothe anxiety in autistic children. But did you know that the sensory room can also be used for a variety of other uses - including other businesses at Bucks Biz? If you want a calming, relaxed space to chill out in one lunchtime, read on to find out more about Cheryl's amazing sensory space.

Cheryl had based her business in a variety of commercial spaces across Milton Keynes since she launched in November 2016, however none were suitable for the children she supports and were distracting to the businesses she was sharing the space with.

Cheryl said: "Bucks Biz was the perfect space for me. I spent a long time looking for a space, I knew I couldn't keep moving my business so wanted to get it right. I was so impressed with how friendly the
Bucks Biz team were and other companies always said no when I said I worked with autistic children, which is a real shame."

"I spent a lot of time talking with Pat; he really took the time to understand what I needed the space for and also what I was able to afford. I first looked at a few spaces over in Bletchley but the Denbigh unit that Pat showed me was perfect!"

Cheryl has big plans for the future:

"I would like AIW Consultancy to become a well-being hub for the community, I would love to find other people who do similar work to share the space with me. I think an occupational therapist or speech and language therapist could really benefit from being able to use a space that has a Sensory Room. I am also very keen to support the well-being of adults and towards the end of the year I shall be having a mental health first aid trainer delivering training to enable businesses to have a designated mental health first aider on site."
