**International Women's Day** (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality.

International Women's Day (IWD) has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. IWD is not country, group or organization specific.

The theme for IWD 2020 is[ #EachforEqual](https://www.internationalwomensday.com/Theme), recognising all of the actions we can take as individuals to challenge stereotypes, fight prejudice and celebrate women's achievements.

According to [The Telegraph:  ](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/women/life/international-womens-day-2020-day-began-fight-womens-rights/)There are a host of free and ticketed events taking place across the country, including talks, workshops and film screenings.

For a full list of events in your local area, check out the official International Women's Day [website](https://www.internationalwomensday.com/).

A big part of International Womens Day is raising awareness, so you can do your bit by promoting the day on Social Media. Post your #IWD2020 message on social media with your "hands out" equal pose for a strong call-to-action for others to support #EachforEqual also.
